Nah, that's definitely not it - I can browse the dev sites, remote desktop, FTP using both internal and external - it was just SQL Server that wasn't playing along. We actually worked around the problem by adding an internal network adapter to the Virtual Server machine and doing the required DTS operations locally, then removing the extra adapter when we were finished. I think it must be something to do with how SQL Server was installed but as I fixed the problem I don't have time to investigate further.
