Well wait, don't really follow this recommendation until you first find out
what is your current version of ODBC/MDAC and tell us what your error is.
Upgrading to the latest MDAC could make it worse.

I'm using Access 2000 MDB files just fine.

Make sure you've got current ODBC drivers.  Check with Microsoft's site:
http://www.microsoft.com/data to make sure.
