Yep - here I yell :)

I'd think REALLY hard about doing a blog without a database. A blog, by nature, 
will grow VERY big VERY fast, with entries and comments alone. Any other 
additional data (links sidebar, author info, etc.) only adds to the storage 
needs. 

Don't underestimate how much content you will generate through you blog if you 
plan on spending ANY amount of time posting to it. 

As cool as flat file (vs. database) driven blogs sound, I would be fairly 
concerned about load times and speed as you get up past a month or two of blog 
postings and/or comments. 

If you can figure out a way to use a DB, I'd suggest going with Ray's BlogCFC, 
Rick's BlogCFM or my BlogFusion - the first two are free, mine is as low as $5.
