I can't help with anything, but my guess would be that you would have a "lastRun" field in your table that would store a date/time as to when the last time it was run. If you really want to get fancy and complicated, you could make a "lastAttempted" and "lastSuccessfullyCompleted". Then, have a field called "frequency" that stores a how often the task should run. You could make this in hours, minutes, seconds, or whatever you want. I'd recommend either hours or minutes (with minutes probably being more flexible). Anyway, each time your index.cfm runs, it would query the DB and find all tasks that haven't been successfully completed in the last n minutes (based on the field). The page would then have to use the other info from the query to make the tasks run and then update the table when they complete successfully.

We need the ability for some users to schedule when a certain task runs, for instance we will have some users who will schedule when a task will run to create a certain report for them. Since we defaintely do not want the users in the cfadmin, and dont really want to make an interface to work with the cfadmin, this is what we are thinking. The highest frequency any of our scheduled tasks will be run is every 15 minutes. So we are going to create our own application with an index.cfm page that will control what jobs need to be run at that time. So we will set up a cf sched task to run this page, and this page is going to figure out what all tasks need to be ran. My main question is this. We are going to have to create a database to hold the task definitions in. Some of the things we need in the database are obvious, but the fields on how to store the frequencies of when these tasks should run could be done a bunch of different ways. So im wondering if anyone else has already done a recurrence type thing that could share their experience. Also, we need the ability to make a task have the choice to make up past events if they were missed, either because the ran and failed or say the power was off and the task never tried to run.
