Also, don't forget to use digest authentication and not basic authentication 
(passwords are sent in clear text!).

Well, actually to do what we are talking about you don't use basic or digest, 
but "Windows Integrated".  And interesting, when I was digging into this, basic 
can become the most secure and cross browser if combined with SSL or similar 
encoding.
