That is a good question, I have been messing(messing=trying to get it to install correctly) with Sharepoint some this week and asking around on it. A few warnings I have recieved on it is that it will essentially take over a machine because it is such a resource hawg. One of them was:
"but be warned that Sharepoint will often insist on owning that machine, making other web applications (especially .NET ones) inoperable" I actually have the need to build a small intranet that amongst its need for various forms for inputting data and searching on that it also needs a document repository. Been led to believe that Sharepoint could just do it all, but been really hesitant to commit to that since been unable to completely validate it. One of the things it needs though that I know Sharepoint is good at is a document repository.
