I believe if you have the option, that querying the database will be faster.
CF can maintain or even cache the results of, a query... it cannot maintain
an open connection to a file. There are many parameters that could effect
this, though.

I am thinking about populating a select box with a list from a text file.
Is that faster than querying a database, or should I import the text file
into a table?
I'm sure there is no absolute answer to this question, but generalities are
acceptable.
