If this is just for development, and you're using the built-in JRun web
server:

If you're using another web server, you can easily create self-signed
certificates for that as well. If you're using IIS, there's a tool called
SelfSSL in the Resource Kit.

When you use a self-signed certificate, it won't be able to validate that
your server is who it says it is, and the user will receive a notification
of this. So, self-signed certificates aren't appropriate for use with live
public sites. They're just fine for testing, though.
