I guess it depends on your workflow...I'm a one-man shop, one server...used to develop on my workstation, now I just use development domains on the production server for development and testing...saves time and doesn't require installing CF, et al on my workstation. I use MySQL exclusively, so don't have any need to use MSSQL at this point.
Getting into a lot of MS software I won't use in production will just take a lot of time for no benefit that I can see...
