I think the benefit was always a SLIGHT performance increase. I don't know that it was ever actually processed faster than a normal tag based method but 99.99999% of the time, it takes less code in cfscript to get the job done which makes for a smaller file size in the end.... which WOULD be processed faster. I guess whether or not you would see or even notice an increase depends on how big your file is and how much you could reduce its overall size using cfscript.
