For a simple, low-cost, easy to use time-tracking software, I suggest
Trax-Time (www.spudcity.com). It's not a time clock but keeps track of
tasks. You click a button when you start doing something, and click stop
when you stop. YOu can have dozens of tasks open at any one time, and click
stop on one start on teh next when you move from working on one task to
another.

Then you can periodically summarise the work done on each task, for weekly
invoices, time sheets or whatever method you use to keep track of hours for
financial reasons.

I use it to keep my hours per job under control, and to compare actuals
against budgetted hours. Since at any time i can be working on half a dozen
sites (in fact I'm building 5 simultaneously right now. a pity 4 of them
are probono!!) it sorts out all the time spent per project for me without my
needing to keep a diary. (i've proved over a working life that i am very
poor at keeping written diaries of work done).
