Jason,
I believe the problem is with your line-height CSS declarations for the
input element. Check out this URL:

Look for:
Bug 5: line-height and padding destroyed on INPUT type="text" and
type="password"
This appears to be the problem you're having. As you type in the box, the
clickable cursor area in IE grows with the amount of text.
