I am using JSMX with Web services and I don't seem to be having any problems. As far as debugging goes, have you successfully called your remote method from another client- e.g. using cfinvoke, CFAJAX, Neuromancer, etc.? I would try doing that first. Neuromancer, btw, has a pretty good Javascript debugger in it.
