The way I try to answer these sorts of questions for myself is to ask how things would work in "real life". If I go to a store, and fill up a cart, the cart is essentially what gets checked out. I might go in, put a bunch of things in my cart, buy them, then realize I forgot something and repeat the process. So, by that logic, the cart is what gets checked out, not me.
