Rick your apprehension about java was shared by a lot of people, but in fact you dont need to know a damn thing about java, That's one of the great things about CFMX. I've tinkered about a bit with java, wanting to learn a bit but only because i wanted to.
I can honestly say that apart from installing the JVM when I installed my first CFMX, I have never touched a line of java code as a result of doing stuff in ColdFusion. Why dont you download the developer version of CFMX7 - its a fully blown version and does everything the enterprise version does, except handle vast numbers of users. Give it a go. Or if you like I'll give you some space on my new-faster-brighter-tighter-more robust hosting service for a few months and you can play with it. You'll like CFMX. It's terrific. I'll give it to you for three months for nothing. At the end you can continue at normal rates or let it lapse, your choice.
