maybe just use a fully implemented analytics package like WebTrends or HBX?
THose you could implement with literally just an hour or less work on your
part.

The problem with going with the cheap-o ones on the market that cost $99 is
that you get exactly what you pay for. The Realtor should be spending a lot
more, upwards of $500/month, to get really good analytics from a reputable
vendor (usually handled as an ASP rather than as desktop software). If they
can't afford that, then the value of what they're asking to track is not
that high ( it costs them less than one commission per YEAR to pay for good
analytics, maybe if they think of it that way, they'll see the cost/benefit
ratio correctly)

Subject: Stats tracking logic question

I'm building a site for a real-estate company and they'd like to track
several aspects of an individual listing as follows:

- Each time a listing is displayed in a search
- Each time an actual listing page is viewed
- Each time someone clicks the "view map" button
- Each time someone clicks the "print page" button
- Each time someone clicks the realtor website link
- Each time someone clicks the "listen to voice-over" button

My first inclination would be to store each of these as columns in the
listings table. This would def make it easy to keep track of the totals.
Then I started wondering if it might be best to create a new table strictly
for tracking these stats. Each time someone does one of those things, it
gets it's own row in the db.

The second would be more cumbersome but gives me more options as then I
could record the date as well for each individual click.

What might some of you suggest?
