You've hit it exactly on the head. That's what Win98 is for - and that's it.
It's an excellent platform for Quake 2, Half-Life, and all the wacky input
devices I like to use. Actually, though, most games run very well under
Win2K - the first "compatibility pack" for Win2K from Microsoft was simply
game optimization. Several games actually run quite a bit better under
Win2K.
