I need to come up with a project for a class I am taking, and thought starting up a fictitious ColdFusion ISP company might be something fun and a good learning experience. I've written a fair amount of CF code, but everything I have done is hosted on our own servers for our intranet. I have never used a CF ISP, or seen what type of control panel (other than a few demos on some web sites) a typical CF ISP may have at their disposal and their customers disposal.
I was thinking about developing my own control panel that administrators and customers can use, implementing database and web site security, etc. I would like to offer MS SQL and Access databases, and Windows servers. Since I am not familiar with CF hosting in this manner, I was hoping to get some ideas from people on this list of what types of things I would need to implement to reasonably accomplish this and create a pretty good project. Here are some things I have so far: _Administrator Tasks (accomplished through a control panel) _- Create customers & user accounts - Disk space management - Database and folder security (keeping customers db and web site folders private from other customers) _Customers Tasks (accomplished through a control panel) _- Create, modify databases and dsn's - Schedule tasks - Database backup schedules I realize there are dozens of options I could do, but I would be interested in getting opinions on what are considered REQUIRED services provided by a CF ISP to its customers. In particular, what type of options should be available to a client through a control panel. Thank for any advice. --- --- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:4:236498 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/4 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:4 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.4 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54
