I don't think I'll go the license route. I do freelance work for my big money making clients. However I now have over 20 small clients. I'm getting to the point where it makes sense to consider a dedicated -- or more precisely a virtual dedicated server.
We're a two person shop and have no time, nor inclination, to do even one minute of work setting up or maintaining a server. (Taking care of our dev boxes ... ummm laptops is enough) :-) Many of our clients just need a simple password protected area (at most 2 or 3 levels) to protect their admin area and to separate the principals from the staff. At some point it ceases making sense to have separate accounts for each client and to host them all on one server, share MS SQL databases, etc...
