Steve, Thanks for keeping us updated ... not sure if it the same problems I was having since it was so awkward to understand what was happening with this one. Remove all the tasks and the stalls seem to go away. More testing needs to be done but this is the first time we have had 4.5.1 stable in over three weeks so the news looks positive. I am not aware that Allaire has done major changes to scheduling in 4.5.1 but something significant has changed. My recommendation is turn off scheduling for ALL tasks, even one that used to work, until Allaire can get us better answers on what exactly is wrong. Hope this helps, - Steve Pierce -----Original Message----- From: Steve Pierce [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, October 06, 2000 2:13 PM To: CF-Talk Subject: CF 4.5.1 Stalls/hangs was RE: 4.5.1 vs 4.5.1 SP1 I too am seeing the CF hang problem and I am already running 4.5.1 SP1. We see unresponsive threads shoot up and then CF just stops responding. For those around in the CF 2.0 days you will remember a similar problem. Allaire's solution was to give you a batch file that rebooted the service every couple of hours. Problem is we can get the system to wig out in under two minutes so restarting the service is not an option. We are up to date on CF, MDAC, SQL Drivers and IIS. We are now in the process of doing a ground up install on a new machine. If anyone has any suggestions they would be most appreciated. - Steve -----Original Message----- From: patrick [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, October 06, 2000 12:57 AM To: CF-Talk Subject: 4.5.1 vs 4.5.1 SP1 Recently upgraded our production server from 4.0.1 (WinNT/IIS/2CPUs/500MHz/256Mb) to 4.5.1 (Win2K/IIS/2CPUs/600MHz/512Mb) after 2 months of testing in development. The first thing we noticed was that the task scheduler - we never tested it - went beserk. From what I read in this list, the scheduler in CF 4.5.1 is not working properly, and following some recommendations, we are using another tool for our scheduled tasks. Thanks. The other thing we noticed, and have not been able to fix so far, is the occasional, seemingly random crashing of the CF server: the number of unresponsive threads suddenly goes up, eventually causing the CF server service to restart itself. It happened 3 times this week already. Scanning CF and IIS log files for ill-intentionned templates did not reveal anything. Note that this does not happen on our dev server (the same one we used for testing) Now, 4.5.1 SP1 has just been released, and - quoting the release notes - "A problem with the ColdFusion performance counters occasionally crashing the server has been fixed. [18514]"; it just happens that CF performance monitoring is enabled on our problematic server; questions: - how can we prove that CF perfmon is the problem (aside from disabling it and waiting to see if the server crashes again)? - if CF perfmon is not the problem, any suggestions as to what could cause this problem, or how to go about troubleshooting it? - if CF perfmon is the problem, will installing SP1 *really* fix it. - is SP1 also taking care of CF task scheduler?
