You'll probably want to run the 3.0.17-ga driver if you're using 5. I didn't have any troubles with 3.1.7 and MySQL 4.1, but it was slow as molasses with MySQL 5. Downgrading seems to have sped things up considerably. Newer driver versions (than 3.1.7) seem to have the same problem.
