spot on. You can receive messages back from the virtual number and then you can do a number of this depending on the responce. At the very least Txtconfirmation will send the responce string back from the virtual number to your responce URL. I did build for them a component that did 'smart replys' which would send furthure txt message depending on the responce, nothing new but it was fun to work on.
You can also get 'Tags' for your virtual numbers - each tage will point to a differrent URL but this does require your user to add something like 'yourTagWork their message' i.e. "ringtone simon and garfunkel" On a side not it's interesting to see email trends heading towards mobile phones...
