As I've said before, I think the ftp support is better in the latest nightly builds then it is in the latest stable release. I've used it for months and the only issue I've had was that after it times out, CFE doesn't handle it very gracefully, but I think even that has improved in the latest version. In any case, you should try to stay away from ftp anyway and use subversion instead for deployments.
