It's what I use a couple of places.  You'd be amazed how far an
animated gif will get you.  People really just like to feel they're
still "connected", even if it's just a picture of a connection.

IIRC from some stuff with FCKEditor, it's really tough to get
some sort of "45k of 298k" type of deal going, since the thread
uploading the file is a cousin of a cousin of one you could actually
track.  Or something like that.  Plain tough I guess.

If someone has some java code tucked away that will provide
that info (how much has been transferred so far), please share!
