k, here we go

 1) Is there a way to import an existing product database of products
that my client already has into CartWeaver? I would assume that I'd
have to export the DB into some kind of CSV file, then import it into
the DB that CW supplies, but is there some kind of documented format?
Or do I have to roll my own?

No, roll away

2) Does the cart automatically use some kind of shopper account process
where repeat customers can just log in and have their info stored in the
DB somewhere to prevent them from having to supply this info every time?

Yes, they register and can log back in, that part is actually nice.

3) Is there a Gift Certificate module (or already built-in) where they
could buy GC's? I already know the pitfalls and difficulties inherent
in this, but some carts have figured it out (like CfWebStore).

Not built in but you can buy a module: http://www.datapacks.com

4) Is there a way to select a group of products and put them on sale
without having to go in and change the individual product prices themselves?

Not built in but you can buy a module: http://www.datapacks.com

5) Is there a real-time shipping module (ie; UPS, USPS, etc) available?
From what I've read, this is a no, but no doesn't always mean no. At
least in this case.

Not built in but you can buy a module: http://www.datapacks.com

That's all. Looking to change shopping carts, and want to make sure
"the grass isn't greener".

Well it certainly works and the price is cool concidering you can use it over
and over and not repurchase it for every site. But it really is a tangled mess
of hair pulling spagetti code, it would be a good product if they "modernized"
it into cfc's and some kind of logic. Adding additional features and what not
is also a major PITA as is finding all the form fields to trim and secure and
going thru and queryparaming everything kinda gets old and frusterating.
With that being said, it certainly is worth the money for a quick store and if
you were to take a day or two and make a store then go in and clean it up and
move to cfc's and non-spagetti code then save that to re-use it would be well
worth it.

Personally, I am going to go with something else or make my own the next time
because once you add those additional feature you are up to like $750
