I have a document imaging system in place here that we use for driver documentation (applications, MVR's, etc), our billing system of invoices and proof of deliveries, AP, etc. I currently store all images as Tiff's and use the free Alternatiff (www.alternatiff.com) to view all images. This works in IE and FF and does exactly what I want it to do (I can pass parameters to disable their toolbar and make my own button sets, looks really good), BUT it only handles Tiff images. I have had a few requests now for different document formats, perhaps even Word and Excel, PDF, JPG, etc. Can anyone recommend a free of open source browser based plug-in or viewer (maybe even flash) that can view many different doc types over the web?
Some of the advanced features I would love are the ability to annotate over the image as a layer, store changes or annotations in SQL, perhaps highlight or block out text in an image, etc. I was looking at the DjVu project (http://javadjvu.foxtrottechnologies.com/) . This looks very cool, but I don't want to have to convert our .NET scanning app to use the DjVu file format, and I don't want to convert my 40+ gigs of tiff images either. I have also thought about server side image conversion, but I have not yet found this to be fast enough even on our beefy server. Tried using Image.cfc from Alagad.com, which works for smaller scale, but I have too many users to make it viable for daily image viewing. Any ideas?
