Instead, you want to use the select list itself.

Not unless you can tell me how to determine the last option clicked on in a
multiple select. I want an event to fire every time on option is clicked on
and to know which option that is. selectedIndex only returns the first option
selected in the list, not the most recent option clicked on a multiple select
control.
