Howard, I have CF running on CentOS 3.7, however I didn't run into any the problems you mention. The only thing I ran into the graphing service problem which is well documented as a TechNote at Adobe. You may consider talking to the guys at Vivio Tech (viviotech.net). They are my hosting provider - although they are on 3.7 - I bet they've installed it on CentOS 4.
