This will be the last reply to this, since we are so far off topic, and this is
also to the other poster as well.

I'm fully aware of the how it works and if you run it in this mode or that
mode...

I forget now what the argument was but what i said was simply that osx is more
secure that windows, especially straight out of the box and if you dont have
Dave Watts sitting there watching it. Then all the ms ppl start saying that
what I and the others said was that osx/unix/linus etc is 100% secure, fyi~
that was never said, thats just the typical ms users responce. The statement
"is more secure than windows" is a pretty broad statement to be sure, hell my
90 year old grandma walking with her cane and with a clear bag filled with a
million dollars in $100 bills walking through harlem at midnight is less of a
security risk that windows.

I remember an article where they plugged in a new pc outta the box straight to
the net and did the same with a mac and within minutes the pc was compromised
and of course that mac wasnt. All us mac ppl run them without all the virus,
spyware, etc protection, 24/7 all the time.

And be my guest and feel brave and turn off your anti-virus and leave puter on
and go to bed and see how secure your os is..

K found some of them old articles:
http://www.zdnet.com.au/news/security/0,2000061744,39200021,00.htm
http://www.realtechnews.com/posts/1511
http://news.com.com/Study:+Unpatched+PCs+compromised+in+20+minutes/2100-7349_3-5313402.html

Even I wouldnt have believed those if it hadnt happened to me. One time while
re-installing I forgot to unplug dsl line and before i could even load
anti-virus i went down again and that was in the middle of the boondocks
kentucky.

Again, none of us ever said osx or the others mentioned were 100% secure but
they are way more secure than windows and thats to be sure!

And if you have the right to tout windows junk then i have the right to tout
osx stuff, just cause ur on windows doesnt give u more of a right to tout your
os the only right it gives you is the right to freely and frequently use the
key combo ctrl-alt-delete ;)~

" tomagically disappear with a wave of Steve Jobs' magic wand."
Hummm, lets see who's wand should I be more willing to trust.... Steves or
Bills.....????

Hell Bill see's the writing on the wall with his os, hence his retirement ;)~

If a user doesn't have administrative permissions, you're right - the virus
can't destroy the system. It can only mess with the things the user has
rights to - that user's data. Of course, for most users, the data is what's
important - the system is just a way to create and maintain that data.

If a user does have administrative permissions, or can be convinced to grant
them to a program, that program will then have administrative permissions.
In OS X (and Vista), by default, users run without administrative
permissions, but when they're needed the OS prompts for an administrative
password. Do you really think the majority of computer users today wouldn't
just go ahead and enter the password, if they know it? And, of course,
they'll need to know it if they're going to install software themselves.

It's nice that you like your Mac, really, but that shouldn't blind you to
the real problems in computer security, which can't just be made to
magically disappear with a wave of Steve Jobs' magic wand.
