Thanks Tom and Tanguy. Yep...telnet confirms that the server cannot establish a connection to the mail server (and my laptop can).
Now the fun begins....what could be the problem?? There is no firewall (but there is a DSL router, but both my laptop and the server go through the router, so it's not the router). IIS is NOT installed (can't see why it would matter but it's worth mentioning)...we're running Apache. I'll keep digging, but if anyone has soome more suggestions...ley 'em on me.
