If you don't know where to start, make it simple. Almost every SMS provider provides email to SMS conversion. I think sprint is (phone number)@sprint.net (I think).
Just send an email to whatever address and that will work fine. If you want to process INCOMMING SMS messages, that's a bit more difficult and I don't know how to do that.
