I had the same problem once...
I know you aren't supposed to do this, but I had to make a fast 
change to a database table and opened up the live sql table in 
enterprise manager..  I made the change fast, then got distracted and 
left the table open..   I got a bunch of complains about the entire 
server being slow.. go back to the server and noticed the problem. As 
soon as I closed the table, everything went back to normal..  is it 
possible you or someone has the table open other than through cold fusion?
