I think I posted this before but no one is picking up on it so here
it is again. Can you try to adjust your JDBC string with a
few extra things and see if that works?
jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/YOUR_DB?logger=
com.mysql.jdbc.log.StandardLogger&useUnicode=true&characterEncoding=UTF8&user=YOUR_U&password=YOUR_P
This is my JDBC string which works with all the new drivers.
If this does it, let us know. Thanks Dan
