Well, it could be a lot of things. First of all, CF isn't compatible with
JVM 1.5, so you can't expect it to work properly in any case, really. I know
that some people are using it, but it breaks things, and no one knows
everything that it breaks.

The heap size startup problem can occur with any version of Java, to the
best of my knowledge. If you reboot the machine, it's more likely to have an
available contiguous extent of RAM and therefore CF is more likely to start
successfully.

I don't think that 1.4.2_12 is supported by CF. I would recommend that you
use the latest version of the JVM that is supported by CF. If I recall
correctly, that's either 1.4.2_09 or 1.4.2_11. You don't need to overwrite
the existing JVM, just install the new one to a different directory, then
point CF to that new one by editing the JVM configuration file. If you're
using the "standalone" version of CF, you can edit the JVM configuration
file directly within the CF Administrator. If you're using the multiserver
version, you will have to edit the jvm.config file manually.

I'm always glad to hear that!
