I'm going to add a vote for this development technique. IE 6 is just broken - I view IE development as an additional fix/workaround to a standards compliant website and I've started using the strict doctype in an effort to bash IE into some form of compliance. Of course you still need to check IE quite carefully, but there comes a point where you have to say "close enough" or risk wasting time.
