I was just contemplating how I should design the site I am working on as far as modularity is concerned. Once the site goes live, it will of course not have all that many visitors, but I am thinking into the future and have high hopes of a massive influx of visitors to the site. The site will be e-commerce and I guess what I was wondering is if I should build it to where each category of the site is independent to the main application. Should I make it to where different parts of the site can run off of different servers, or simply use clustering for failover? I am not a network admin and am not sure exactly how clustering works and how I would go about it, if I were to have say 500,000 visitors a month doing commerce. Hell I do not even know if that would be considered alot of traffic to a server. Anyhow, any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
