Any ideas? I just have very broad ideas without knowing your requirements in more detail.
In your filter function that is called from the select's onChange event, change the action property of the form to a page that handles the ID logic, restores the current state of the form, and returns to the form page. Then submit the form with javascript with the submit method of the form.
