I would suggest that you include a complete <cfdocument opening and closing tag
in each cfif statement:
<cfif xxxxx>
<cfdocument format="pdf">
build document here....
</cfdocument>
<cfelse>
<cfdocument format="pdf">
build alternate document here....
</cfdocument>
</cfif>
This way round the compiler will not give a closing tag error.
