It's been a long time since this was posted... I will post a reply just for the sake of those who may be looking for it in future.
I had the similar symptoms on CF 7.0.2 - the report contain subreports would hang, whereas they all worked fine separately. In the end I found out that CF hangs if the resulting length of the subreport is longer than the height of the containing section (Detail, in my case). Suprisingly - at least to me, who is used to MS Access - the section does not grow automatically, so it appear you have to allow enough space for all subreport data from the beginning.
