Yeah, I bet you are doing this up the page:

<cfset session.xTime = "now()">

And you really wanted

<cfset session.xTime = now()>

Does session.xTime is a date/time value or the literal "now()".  Did you
possible do the same thing when you assigned this value as you did in
the function?

<cfoutput>#session.xTime#</cfoutput> before the function to confirm it's
value.
