I had a similar problem rick and it turned out to be a simple case issue, when
I was declaring my destination="ColdFusion" I had destination="Coldfusion"
so it should look something like
<mx:RemoteObject id="cfCall"
destination="ColdFusion"
source="myProject.components.myCFC"/>
