You can do this by having an "all cold fusion method" that checks 
credentials, then use CFLOCATION at the end to redirect them appropriately, 
depending on whether credentials authenticate or not.

However your credentials method would still be a .cfm template, just not one 
that is served to the end user.

login.cfm (user login page)
....submits (post) to credentials.cfm (checks credentials)
....either redirects to welcome.cfm (credentials successful)
or back to login.cfm (credentials fail)

This would probably somewhat mimic what you are used to with ASP.
