But only if you use *nix version of Apache, the NT version of Apache is not
really ready for primetime when compared to IIS and Website.

But apache is free and will probably scale as high as your CPU and
memory will take it. I've done testing with up to 10,000 IP's/domains and
it ran just fine. (This was on a linux box, I wouldn't trust that many
sites on a windows box).
