I'm not a ColdFusion developer, but I head a small team of web developers at an in-house department of a research division of a university. I am currently investigating web-based image management and gallery applications. We have a large number of images here that have no organization system behind them. We want to build an application that will allow internal staff to input, view and search all our images. We also want to be able to designate certain images to share with the public that will appear on public-facing web pages that we can control the markup and style of.
If we can't find any existing scripts to buy or open-source ones to modify, we'll just build it ourselves in CF, but we'd prefer starting with something existing if possible. I've found a couple CF ones, but they are very basic. I've found some PHP ones that are closer to what we are looking for, but we'd prefer to stick with ColdFusion if possible, since that's what we develop everything in. That's why I'm here -- to get recommendations from you guys as to good CF image management and gallery apps. PHPWebGallery (PWG), http://www.phpwebgallery.net/eng/index.html, is the closest thing so far to what we're looking for. We need to be able to organize images into categories and subcategories, as well as tag them with words describing what is in the images (PWG does this). We need to be able to search by many parameters of the images (PWG does this). We need to be able to designate which images are public and which can only be seen by internal staff, and we need to have separate interfaces for both sets of people, with the internal interface allowing searching on more parameters and viewing more information about each file. This is where PWG falls short. It also doesn't have all the fields we would need: location of photo, who owns the copyright, permission info, our internal rating of quality, etc. We could add these, of course, but the point is we need an app that makes this kind of editing simple. So, does anyone know of a CF app that is similar to PWG and could be easily edited to meet our needs? It doesn't have to be free -- we have money we have to spend out on software right now.
