Brad,
Your first tier strategy would be to offer a <cfchart> solution.  You
outline the benefit of the chart over Excel as a logical step forward.

The second tier would be to then in turn sell Flex as away to make the chart
more interactive with increased user drill down features.

You are the right track.  Excel really is just a spreadsheet for
calclulating data sets and pivot tables in a way you can share with people.


You could go as far as to graphically represent the data with cfchart and
then offer a data set download if they want to see the data in Excel.
