Most of the descriptions under each of the topics listed will most likely be adjusted and pre-requisites will be added. -------------- * CFUNITED Video Survey Results Congrats to Rob Kolosky! Claim your prize for free attendance to a TeraTech event. Thanks everyone who gave feedback on the conference, video, food, special event and topics. We read every comment. Looks like overall you really liked the conference and content. Improvements are to show the screen (code samples) in videos, make sure that food has healthy choices and doesn't run out, and have a way to include lonely programmers in the networking. Everyone, please continue to send us your comments about CFUnited and how we can improve. http://www.cfunited.com/survey.cfm -------------- * Only 9 days left on the Early-Early bird price for CFUNITED, Expires Friday 1/5/07 midnight EST. We only have a handful left... Quote from an attendee: "I really enjoyed attending CFUnited 2006. We have already put it into our budget to attend 2007 conference. The people I met and the sessions I attended help me to feel more confident in what we are offering to our clients and to know that there are others just like us out there. Of all the conferences that I have attended over the last 8 years of being in business this was by far the best bang for the buck. I felt right at home with all the other developers and was able to learn quite a bit as well as teach a few things. There is no such thing as being left out when it came to CFUnited. I personally will be attending next year" - Barbara ONeal - Centric Web, Inc. -------------- * Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 review You can read our review of Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 at : http://mdcfug.org/blog/index.cfm/2006/12/22/Adobe-Premiere-Pro-20-Review -------------- * CFUnited Podcasts - This week's podcast release is from Jeremy Kadlec - "SQL Server 2000 and 2005 Performance Tuning" Achieving high performance is no mistake. But what if no one took the time during the design, development and testing phases to ensure the platform will meet the performance requirements? Now the system is live, performance is unacceptable and it needs to be corrected. Does this sound familiar? Come learn how to diagnose and resolve common performance issues with the SQL Server tool set. You will learn tips and tricks to take back to the office as a resolution for those pesky performance problems. Other podcasts can be found on CFUnited's Blog at http://www.cfunited.com/blog/index.cfm/podcast Each week we have been releasing one presentation from CFUnited 2006 as a Podcast recording. Step up to the next level with your Fusebox programming and save yourself time and headaches when coding ColdFusion applications. Great for team projects! Instructor: Theo Rushin Prerequisite: FB101 or similar basic Fusebox knowledge. FB301 - Advanced Fusebox Advanced Fusebox: - $449.00 Location: Bethesda North Marriott Learn advanced Fusebox techniques with FB guru Jeff Peters. This one-day class will supercharge your Fusebox skills. Dig into the secrets of Fusebox framework parameters, explore runtime modes, and examine the power of XML in Fusebox configuration files. Find out how to make Fusebox work for you to make not only your code but your projects better organized. Learn about 3rd-party tools that will jam-pack your development time with productivity, and take a peek at where Fusebox may be headed in the future. Instructor: Jeff Peters MG101 - Rapid Application Development with Model-Glue 2.0 Location: Bethesda North Marriott In this class, we're going to write an online store in eight hours. We'll be using Model-Glue 2.0, also known as "Unity," a ground-up rewrite of the popular Model-Glue framework for ColdFusion. Model-Glue 2.0 is the first ColdFusion framework to provide scaffolding, the ability to automatically generate Object-Oriented, database-driven applications. In this class, we'll learn about the RAD capabilities this provides by using Model-Glue, in conjunction with the Reactor ORM framework, to create a functioning online store. We'll also learn a bit about agile development methodologies as well as the ColdSpring framework. Instructor: Joe Rinehart These classes are held at the Bethesda North Marriott, cost is $449 per person. The cost is not included in the Frameworks Conference Registration. Now Fusebox 5.1 allows absolute (or mapped) paths for circuits, plugins, lexicons and errortemplates as well as fully supporting the ability to override the default locations of the parsed/, plugins/, lexicon/ and /errortemplates using fusebox.xml parameter values. For more details see: http://corfield.org/entry/Fusebox_51__The_big_new_feature --------- * Interview "Flex 2.0 Enterprise Services and ColdFusion - 203" with Thomas Burleson Michael Smith: This time we are talking with Thomas Burleson about his CFUNITED-06 talk "Flex 2.0 Enterprise Services and ColdFusion - 203". So why should a developer see your session video Thomas? Thomas Burleson: While the Flash IDE (Flash MX Pro, Flash 8 Pro) will remain the primary tool used by graphic designers to create flash movies, Flex is the premiere tool used by developers/programmers to quickly create flash content for commercial and business solutions. MS: Why is that? TB: It is code based rather than designer based. Just like ColdFusion is a tag based language to generate HTML, Flex is a tag based language to generate Flash. MS: So is Flex 2.0 better than Flex 1.5 was? TB: Flex 1.5 provided a robust framework and GUI components and significantly reduced project issues of complexity, team-development, and creating reusable components. But Flex 1.5 also presented challenges with installation, extensibility, and required a J2EE application server to deliver flash content compiled from Flex projects. Additionally, Flex 1.5 license agreements were required and their CPU-based costs were non-trivial. MS: Non-trival! $15k+ is enterprise level software. What about Flex 2.0? TB: Flex 2.0 has changed the landscape. The framework has been significantly improved and performance is strikingly faster. Flash content can now be compiled from Flex 2.0 projects WITHOUT a J2EE application server... and deployed in quantity WITHOUT license agreements. XML can be easily retrieved from remote servers and integration with CFMX servers are easier than ever. The Flex framework source code is even provided with the Flex 2.0 Builder. MS: Is there any downside? TB: Flex 2.0 does not include the Flex Enterprise Services (FES). Without the FES, developers can access remote data only via HTML and XML formats. MS: So what does the FES do? TB: Developers will need FES to do the following: 1) To access server-side Java objects, the FES is required. (Adobe now offers a free ColdFusion extension that provides native server-side access to CFC objects). 2) To integrate a Flex application into a Java Messaging system or a CFMX Event Gateway, the FES is required. 3) To automatically save database recordset changes back to the server, FES is required. 4) To leverage the easy data "push" vs. "pull" features, FES is required. 5) To leverage publish/subscribe features on server-side data, FES is required. MS: Wow neat stuff. Will you have any sample apps to show? TB: Yes I will provide some sample applications that demonstrate these amazing new features in the Flex Enterprise Services for Flex 2.0. MS: You can see Thomas's session on video at: http://www.cfunited.com/ --------------- * Event Facts and Details Summary CFUnited 2007 - Bethesda North Marriott - June 27th - 30th 2007 Prices: $749-$849 until January 5th (Ask for discounts!
