Like everyone else has, I'd recommend either SeeFusion or Fusion Reactor.
You might also upgrade your JVM. The latest supported version is 1.4.2_11,
but you might have success with a newer version as well - try it out in your
QA environment first, obviously.

Finally, your problem may actually be that you're using too much memory! (As
opposed to a memory leak, etc.) If so, that won't be an easy fix, but you
might look at using separate instances for some individual applications.
