Also, FireWorks has a Batch processing feature that allows you to select the
files to alter and the different actions (resize, scale, etc), the order in
which the actions take place, and then the directory to which to save them
(or to overwrite the original files).

Photoshop allows you to record your actions, save them as a script and then
point it at a folder, it will then run your actions on the files in that
folder.
