I have a need to set up replication between a local database and a remote one on the web server. I want to use replication to keep the data transfer requirements to a minimum. No changes will be made to the data by the web server it will just be reading the data but it needs to be fairly up to date.
The problem I am having is that replication is insisting on referring to the servers by name not by IP address and since the web server is remote and not on our LAN it's name is not available. I did try using a VPN but that didn't work either.
