Tables are meant for display data as complete sheet. I think this is so the data isn't misinterpretted. You could use CSS instead of tables but creating grids is quite tricky like this.
I reckon the problem may lie with the layout of the rest of the page. Have you tried the page without this info. Does it take a noticable amount of time to display? Also, try that section of code in its own page see how quickly it displays.
